Helpful Hints from Reynolds:
When running any utility or
diagnostics program please be careful.
These types of software can change critical file structure
information and data loss may occur.
Always use the UNDO option when
running any type of utility software.
This will allow you to return the file structure to the
original condition if the utility was unable to correct the
problem.
DO NOT format the drive or change the
partitions (i.e., Fdisk) if you
are unable to access your data! This can lessen the chances
of a successful recovery.
If you have formatted the drive or
changed the partitions, DO NOT
install any software or make any more changes to the drive.
This can overwrite your data making
recovery impossible.
DO NOT
open the drive! Airborne particles
and dust can immediately contaminate the platters causing
further damage and data loss. This will also void your
warranty.
If your computer is on and you are
experiencing problems, immediately
BACKUP all critical, accessible data.
Then turn the computer off.
If the drive is making any unusual
noises (i.e., scraping, clicking, or buzzing), turn off the
system immediately. The damage
will continue to progress the longer the drive continues to
run. Noises can be indications of a head crash, one of the
most severe problems that can occur.
DO NOT tap, hit or shake the drive if
it is not spinning up! This can
cause severe damage to the heads and platters. Possibly even
complete data loss.
Always handle
the drive gently by the edges.
Never touch the electronic components (PCBA).
Always use an anti-static bag when moving
the drive.
The average failure rate of disk drives
is 100%. ALL drives eventually
fail.
WARNING: Tampering with a damaged hard
drive may cause loss of data. Reynolds Data Recovery does
not take responsibility for the loss of data as a result of
the suggestions offered above.
When sending in a Drive:
Be sure to fill out our
Recovery Form and include as
much information as possible. This can reduce time in
diagnostics and save you money.
Be sure to mention any pre-existing
conditions with your drive.
Be sure to pack the drive well.
Insufficient packing can cause further damage and data loss
during shipping.
If the drive is wet or has fire damage,
carefully enclose it in an appropriate sealed container. |
